Dr. Karen Fairlie-Clarke joined Project Coordinator, Jacqui Matthews, and rest of the PARAGONE team at Moredun Research Institute in May this year to work on nematode vaccine development. Her research background is in immune-mediated host-parasite interactions, in particular co-infections.

Since joining the team Karen has been hands on with all aspects of the Teladorsagia circumcincta vaccine trials; producing the recombinant proteins and sampling animals to measure parasite burden and immune parameters. Karen is thoroughly enjoying her experience and is making the most of the training opportunities available.

Karen says, “It’s great to be working in this collegiate atmosphere with a team that is committed to improving livestock welfare and productivity through the development of effective vaccines. Everyone has been extremely welcoming and I hope to have the opportunity to continue in this line of research beyond the PARAGONE project”.
