From September 3rd – 8th parasitologists from all around the world convened at the island of Hydra (Greece) for the 11th ‘Molecular and Cellular Biology of Helminths’ conference. In 12 thematic sessions all important fields in helminth research (host-parasite interactions, genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics, immunology, vaccinology, etc…) were covered. PARAGONE collaborators Ana Gonzalez-Hernandez and Jimmy Borloo from Ghent University attended the conference to present an update on their research regarding vaccine development and vaccine induced immune responses against Cooperia oncophora and Ostertagia ostertagi infections in cattle. Whereas Jimmy’s poster presentation covered the biochemical and structural aspects of vaccine development, Ana’s oral presentation dealt with the immunological side of the projects. Both presentations were highly appreciated by attendants with multiple questions being asked and talks conducted. Besides such constructive comments, a number of future research ideas were obtained and possible collaborations were discussed and are in fact being initiated as we speak.
Below are some pictures taken during the first poster session on the top floor of Hydra’s Museum.
