Currently, Head of UCD School of Veterinary Medicine at University College Dublin, Grace was appointed to the Chair of Veterinary Microbiology and Parasitology in late 2004, and has been a member of academic staff at UCD since 1991. Prior to that she was a Veterinary Research Officer at the Institute for Animal Health, Pirbright Laboratory.
Grace’s research group focuses on host-pathogen interactions, and is actively involved in understanding how helminths interfere with protective immunity to bacterial infections. Her group has developed intellectual property in parasite vaccine development, most notably for controlling liver fluke infection in farm animals and sea-lice infestation in farmed salmon and trout. Her group also studies the interaction of protozoan parasites with host cells. The group enjoys excellent collaborative relationships with many other groups in Ireland and internationally, and forms part of the strong infection, immunity and inflammation research theme running through the School Veterinary Medicine, cognate schools (SBBS, SMMS) and the Conway Institute.
